BLOCS Announces Over $100,000 Raised on Giving Tuesday

King of Prussia, Pa. (December 7, 2022) – Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools (BLOCS), the premier need-based scholarship organization in the Philadelphia region, announced a record number of funds raised through its Giving Tuesday campaign with $100,915 in donations.

"This past year has been full of challenges, yet our community’s desire to give back has only grown," said CEO Dave Rowan. “Many thanks to the generosity of our donors, our Board, and sponsors PECO and Capital One for their matching gifts. With these funds, we’ll be able to make the gift of a high-quality values-based education accessible to even more students in 2023.

Key Results:

  • The Board Member with the most money raised was founder of Young Capital, Michael Young, with $13,050

  • Matching gifts from PECO and Capital One tripled the donations to BLOCS by up to $50,000 and doubled up to $10,000

Now more than ever, the nation is witnessing the impact a quality education has on America’s youth. In October, The National Center for Education Statistics released the first national test scores for fourth- and eighth-graders since before the pandemic, and found that achievement in reading and math has dropped significantly since 2019 — except for students in Catholic schools.

Donors looking for more ways to give back by the end of the year can apply for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program that allows businesses and individuals to redirect their income taxes to fund need-based scholarships for children in Philadelphia, the 5-county region, and across the state of Pennsylvania.
