Special
Education Greeting, 2004 Annual Gala
The Special Education Greeting was delivered by a student
from Queen of the Universe Day Center in Levittown. QUDC serves
mildly to moderately mentally handicapped, developmentally delayed
and brain-damaged students.
Good evening
ladies and gentlemen,
I am a student
at QUDC School of Special Education. I am 15 years old and I was
10 years old when I started school at QUDC. I started school in
my neighborhood in
Philadelphia.
I was in and out of both Catholic and public schools, but no one
could help me. My parents spoke to Father Hutter asking him to
help us find the right school for me. They went to QUDC and found
the staff to be very caring. After touring the school and talking
to the staff and children, my Mom knew she had found the school
for me.
I started
at QUDC not knowing how to read, write or do any of the basics,
but now, 4 years later, I can read, write, do math problems and
so much more. I know I have to work hard, but I know I can learn
if I do work hard.
QUDC has helped
me to be the person I am today. I love to cook at school and go
shopping for diner day. I really like to help the teacher and
the other kids. I like going to school.
I want to
thank all of you here tonight for making it possible for me and
children like me to go to such a wonderful school. We learn about
God every day and I know he is happy with all that you are doing
and all that I am learning. Thank you all again for supporting
QUDC School of Special education, a wonderful school.
Goodnight.
