Carolyn Cosenza Mooney Scholarship Fund
Carolyn Cosenza Mooney valued the lessons learned throughout her
Catholic education at Annunciation BVM Elementary School and Saint
Maria Goretti High School for Girls. Her husband, the late James
J. Mooney, established this scholarship fund in her memory to
fulfill her lifelong dream of helping female students from these
two schools.
To date, this fund totals over $2 million. A total of 26 female
students attending Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti Catholic
High School have been awarded four-year, full tuition scholarships
and one senior had been awarded a four-year $5,000 scholarship
to attend a Catholic college or university of her choice.
The
Stephen J. DiPaolo Scholarship Fund
Stephen
"Stumpy" DiPaolo was the victim of a hit and run automobile
accident in August 2001. He was 26 years old. A graduate of Saint
Charles Borromeo elementary school, Monsignor Bonner High School
and Saint Joseph's University, Stumpy was co-owner of the Bryan
Street Pub in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, and the varsity ice hockey
coach for his alma mater.
After
his tragic passing, Stephen "Stumpy" DiPaolo's family
and friends created a memorial scholarship at Monsignor Bonner
High School to honor his generosity, his dedication to his community
and his relentless work ethic. The first partial scholarship for
the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 school years has been awarded to a
junior at Monsignor Bonner High School who demonstrates positive
academic and discipline records, and whose life mirrors Stumpy's
commitment to improving his community.
The Ryan Ferris Scholarship Fund
Ryan Ferris, a young and vibrant 14 year old, was tragically killed
in a fire resulting from arson at his home on November 6, 1998.
Ryan attended Saint Francis de Sales Elementary School in Aston,
Delaware County, where he did well in academics, sports and playing
the trumpet. Although Ryan experienced all that his young life
had to offer, his heart found true joy in his faith.
As a way to celebrate Ryan's life and to respond to the injustice
of his death, his family has created the Ryan Ferris Scholarship
Fund with the support of their local community and the students
of Malvern Preparatory School. Annual scholarships assist students
attending Saint Malachy Elementary School in Philadelphia. This
fund also has the potential of funding students at St. Francis
de Sales Elementary School, Aston. To date, four scholarships
have been awarded to students attending St. Malachy Elementary
School.
F. C. Haab Science Scholarship
F. C. Haab
Science Scholarships will recognize high school senior students
in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for scholastic excellence in
science. In addition, support from F.C. Haab Company, Inc. will
stress the growing importance of science education and science-related
careers to Archdiocesan high school students.
Through the
generosity of F.C. Haab Company, Inc., the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
presented twenty-one F.C. Haab Science Scholarships, valued at
$1,300 each, to high school seniors who have demonstrated academic
merit in science throughout their freshman, sophomore and junior
years of study. These scholarships are applied toward archdiocesan
high school tuition costs for the 2005-2006 school year.
The number
of Haab Science Scholars is congruent with the number of Archdiocesan
secondary schools -- twenty-one. This scholarship program has
been providing scholarships to seniors who excel in the sciences
since September 1994.
